Raksha Bandhan Special Dish: Badam Halwa (Almond Halwa)

History:

Halwa is a traditional Indian dessert that holds a special place in festive celebrations. It symbolizes the sweetness and joy of the occasion. Recipe: Badam Halwa

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • After soaking, peel the skin off the almonds and set them aside.

2. Make Almond Paste:

  • In a food processor or blender, grind the soaked and peeled almonds into a fine paste. You can add a little milk to aid in grinding.

3. Cook the Halwa:

  • In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
  • Add the almond paste to the pan and sauté it in the ghee for about 8-10 minutes until it turns light golden and releases a nutty aroma.

4. Add Milk and Sugar:

  • Slowly add milk to the sautéed almond paste while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Allow the mixture to cook on medium-low heat until it thickens, stirring frequently to prevent sticking to the bottom.

5. Flavor and Sweeten:

  • Add sugar to the mixture and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves and the halwa thickens further.

6. Infuse Flavor:

  • Add saffron-soaked milk and cardamom powder to the halwa. Stir well to evenly distribute the flavors and color.

7. Finish and Garnish:

  • Continue cooking the halwa, stirring often, until it reaches a halwa-like consistency and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and let the halwa cool slightly.
  • Garnish with chopped nuts like almonds and pistachios.

8. Serve:

  • Serve the warm and decadent Badam Halwa to your family and friends during Raksha Bandhan celebrations.
